Responsibilities of the Manufacturers and Importers

 

Responsibilities of manufacturers and importers under the deposit system prescribed by the Law on Packaging and Packaging Waste:

  • Manufacturers and importers are obliged to charge a deposit to packaging distributors and sellers, and refund it to the sellers when they return the packaging waste, if they supply beer, beer cocktails, cider, perry, fruit wine, fruit-wine cocktails, other fermented drinks, alcoholic cocktails or non-alcoholic beverages (soft drinks, table water, kvass), natural mineral, spring or bottled drinking water, or juices or nectar in the internal market of the Republic of Lithuania in one of the following types of one-way packaging with a volume of more than a tenth of a litre but less than 3 litres:
    • glass;
    • PET;
    • metal.
  • Manufacturers and importers that supply products in Lithuania in packaging covered by the deposit system are obliged to label the packaging with barcodes that identify the manufacturer or importer and with the appropriate deposit mark.
  • Manufacturers and importers that supply packaging covered by the system, as well as distributors and sellers of contents of this packaging, are obliged to indicate the product price and value of the packaging deposit in the relevant accounting documents.
  • Manufacturers and importers are obliged to participate in the deposit system for one-way packaging, if they supply products to the internal market of the Republic of Lithuania in packaging covered by the deposit system, by delegating organisation of the deposit system for one-way packaging to its administrator.

Manufacturers and importers are obliged to cover the costs of participating in the deposit system that relate to management of one-way packaging waste collected under the system and its administration.
